Today, we're celebrating some incredible female artists and channeling our inner activist with some DIY protest sign magic!
Girl Power on International Women's Day!
It's International Women's Day, and what better way to celebrate than by amplifying the voices of amazing female artists? Here are a few of my current faves:
Faith Ringgold: This iconic artist uses vibrant quilts to explore themes of race and gender. Check out her work – it's mind-blowing!
Frida Kahlo: A true symbol of female strength and self-expression. Her bold portraits are a constant source of inspiration.
Betye Saar: This mixed-media artist uses assemblage to create powerful social commentary.
Channel Your Inner Artist with Protest Art Therapy
Art therapy has been a game-changer for me when dealing with the frustrations of many things like migraine pain and gender inequality. Let's face it, the fight for equal rights can be emotionally draining. But channeling those emotions into something creative can be incredibly therapeutic.
DIY Protest Sign Tutorial: Make Your Voice Heard!
Ready to craft your own sign and join the movement? Here's what you'll need:
Poster board or cardboard: Grab a sturdy base for your message. I've linked great options for you!
Acrylic paint or markers: Let your creativity flow with vibrant colors!
Scissors or craft knife (optional): If you're feeling fancy, cut out fun shapes for your sign. (Remember, be careful with sharp objects!)
Stencils (optional): Struggling with perfect lettering? Stencils are your friend! [link to alphabet stencils on Amazon]
Glitter, stickers, or anything else that sparks joy (optional): Make your sign uniquely YOU!
Step 1: Brainstorm Your Message!
What message do you want to get across? Is it gender equality, female empowerment, or something specific to your community? Write down some key words and phrases for inspiration.
Step 2: Design Your Sign!
Here comes the fun part! Sketch your design on a piece of paper, or go straight freehand. Think about colors, fonts, and any visuals you want to include.
Step 3: Get Crafty!
Paint, write, stencil, and decorate your sign! Don't worry about perfection, just express yourself.
Step 4: Share Your Voice!
Take your sign to a rally, put it in your yard, or share a picture online with the hashtag for this year: #InspireInclusion
Remember, every voice counts!
Let's use our creativity to celebrate women, fight for equality, and inspire change.
Bonus Tip: Feeling overwhelmed? Check out online resources for protest sign inspiration! Pinterest and Instagram are great places to find creative ideas.
Happy crafting, and Happy International Women's Day!
With Strength,
Julianna
